So whenever one can get rid of a plugin, it’s always a cause for celebration.

ACTUALIZAÇÃO: encontrei um plugin extremamente útil que permite remover contas nunca utilizadas. Só é necessário conta para fazer comentários e enquanto que as pessoas normalmente os fazem logo, os spammers tentam deixar amadurecer a conta antes de fazer um comentário por isso deve chegar.
